Meriam started volunteering with Dress for Success San Jose in 2022 as a Virtual Career Coach and has coached over ten women in their professional journeys. One woman who Meriam recently coached shared that the specific line that Meriam suggested she add to her resume was the specific line that the hiring manager commended her on and summed up who they wanted to hire exactly. She knew she got the job right there and then!

Dress for Success San Jose: How did you hear about Dress for Success SF/SJ?
Meriam: I learned about Dress for Success SF when I was researching organizations that support women's career development--which I am very passionate about--and was attracted to volunteer by the potential to make an immediate impact on the lives of women across various professional spheres.
Dress for Success San Jose: What motivated you to start volunteering with Dress for Success SF?
Meriam: As a woman from a minority population who has been fortunate to become a leader in the Tech sector, I know firsthand how challenging it can be to advance in your career and how important it is to have great mentors to guide you along the way. I was very fortunate to have wonderful mentors to help me successfully navigate the challenges I encountered during my journey, and I credit my success in large part to the invaluable guidance they provided. Over the years, I have also gained great satisfaction and personal growth from mentoring other women and individuals from minority groups pursuing careers in Tech, and I was excited to partner with Dress for Success SF to help pave the way for all the women who just need someone to be a source of support, advice, and motivation.
Dress for Success San Jose: What has been the most fulfilling part of volunteering with us?
Meriam: Wow! I have been absolutely blown away by the incredible mentees I have had the privilege of meeting. I am learning so much from them, and they inspire me through their stories of perseverance and resiliency. I have a very demanding job, and I am reinvigorated by our weekly mentoring sessions, where I am so fortunate to meet wonderful, highly motivated, career-driven women who are eager and excited to join the workforce.
Dress for Success San Jose: What would you like to tell future supporters (Financial Donors and/or potential volunteers) about Dress for Success SF/SJ?
Meriam: Future supporters of Dress for Success SF need to know that this organization is doing truly outstanding work. Their work makes an immediate impact on our community and society by providing career development for wonderful, talent women from all walks of life. It is a truly inspirational organization!

Meriam: I love cooking for my family and friends...it brings me so much joy!
